Be yourself – We all have different networking styles, some are listeners, some

jokers, whatever your style is be sure to be yourself - it will show if you are not.

We all have something to give.

Preparation – Decide who do you want to meet? Review the delegate list.

• Introduce Yourself – Opening the conversation will put others at ease. Wear you

badge high enough for people to see it easily.

Business cards – Bring your business cards and ask people for theirs and then

give them yours. Study the business card; this can be a useful tool for

Conversation.

Interesting & engaging – listen to people when they are talking, ask questions

and speak in return, networking isn’t always about talking, people remember how

you make them feel, if you listen, and listen well, you will make them feel good

about them self.

Follow up – Follow up with the people you meet, don’t just put business cards in

a pile, and make notes on the card to remind you what was discussed/about the

person if it helps.

Remove sales hat – networking isn’t just about selling, like marketing it’s a small

part of it.

•Smile – Be open and positive, you will have a better time and become more

Memorable.

Exit strategy – Don’t get stuck talking to someone you don’t want to, have an exit

strategy, get a drink or go to the bathroom.

The long term – networking isn’t about converting a lead there and then; it’s

about building and growing relationships so when someone does need your

service they know who to call.
